In 1975, Billy Appleton built the house on Kefauver and became an established tomato gardener. He continued his tradition of growing tomatoes on his property until his death in 2017. After the passing of his wife, Dorothy, a couple of years later, the house and the garden was passed down to their granddaughter, Bryce, and her husband Cody Agee. Bryce and Cody continue to keep Mr. Appleton's garden traditions alive by growing tomatoes, squash, zucchini, and other various vegetables along with apples, pears, muscadines and other fruits.
