Additional Information: Crockett County FFA Agriculture Department: Cultivating Knowledge and Sustainability Nestled in the heart of Crockett County, the FFA Agriculture Department is a beacon of innovation and education. Our department is comprised of four dynamic programs of study: Animal Science, Plant Science, Natural Resources Management, and Food Science. Together, these programs provide our students with hands-on experience and the skills needed to thrive in the agricultural industry. What is special about your farm or product? At the Crockett County Ag Department, our students are at the forefront of agricultural excellence. They raise registered Shropshire sheep at our school barn, showcasing their lambs across the state. These lambs are not only shown but also sold as registered show lambs or processed into retail cuts at a USDA-inspected facility. Each cut is vacuum sealed and frozen, ready for consumers to enjoy. Our students also hatch and sell farm-raised chickens, including Cornish Cross hens that are processed and sold as whole chickens. Additionally, they raise laying hens and collect fresh eggs daily for sale. Our on-campus hoop house greenhouse allows students to plant and grow annual bedding plants, which are sold at our annual plant sale. We also have a separate hydroponic greenhouse where we grow fresh vegetables such as tomatoes, lettuce, squash, herbs, and cucumbers. What do your customers need to know? Our customers should know that by supporting the Crockett County FFA Agriculture Department, they are investing in the future of agriculture. Our students are learning to be self-sustainable and are dedicated to raising high-quality products that support our local community. We are proud to offer a variety of products, including farm-fresh eggs, whole chickens, retail cuts of lamb, and a wide range of vegetables and bedding plants. We are also excited to announce the addition of a new sector: growing our own cut flowers on campus. These flowers will be used by students in our floral design classes to create beautiful arrangements for sale to the public. Our food science program is also working on creating value-added products from our hydroponically grown vegetables, such as freeze-dried veggies and pickles. Is there anything distinctive about your location? The Crockett County FFA Agriculture Department is located in a picturesque area that is easily accessible to the community. Our school barn and greenhouses are situated on campus, providing a convenient and educational environment for our students. Visitors can enjoy the scenic beauty of our location and witness firsthand the dedication and hard work of our students. For those planning a visit, we recommend stopping by our on-campus General Store, where you can purchase all of our farm products. Our students are always eager to share their knowledge and passion for agriculture with the community.
