Additional Information: As a child I watched my grandmother preserve foods in jars: working long hours, wiping her hands on her apron, leaving me in charge of checking the timer on the terrifying pressure canner steaming and shaking on the basement stovetop. With her in mind, I started making Bread and Butter pickles when my kids were small. There was always an open jar in the fridge - we'd pile them on hamburgers and sometimes I would gift a jar. So many friends told me they were so delicious I should sell them. With the help of my family, we preserve what we are growing in the greenhouse along with locally sourced seasonal fruits and vegetables. Some would say, "what a lot of hard work!" but for me it's a labor of love as I feel my grandmother working through me to make something fresh and delightful to share with others.
