Sylvan Springs Heritage Farm
- On Farm Sale
Sylvan Springs Heritage Farm is located in the heart of Unicoi, Tennessee, on a 50-acre legacy property bordering the Cherokee National Forest. While my father officially began stewarding this land in the early 1970s, his connection to these ridges is lifelong?he has hunted and explored these woods since the 1940's and he was a young boy alongside his own father. We are simply the latest in a long line of caretakers; the discovery of a significant concentration of Morrow Mountain-era projectile points reveals that this land has been a site of labor and craft for over 7,000 years. Our farm is dedicated to preserving Appalachian heritage through the cultivation of heritage orchard fruits, specifically rare apple varieties, and the sustainable propagation of native botanicals. We are active conservationists, working tirelessly to remove invasive species and restore the mountain?s natural balance. As an official Certified Monarch Waystation (#54599), we use cultivation and protection of specific host plants to ensure native butterfly populations have a protected haven to thrive during their incredible migration. The property is also home to a nearly 200 year old boxwood, a living piece of history from which we are carefully cultivating new starts to share with our community. Historically, our land held a 100-year watershed contract with the town of Unicoi; while that contract concluded nearly twenty years ago, we continue to honor that legacy through dedicated water and soil conservation. Today, I am moving into the future by integrating my children into the labor and love of the land, ensuring our traditional mountain culture and herbal knowledge thrive for another 50 years.
